The death of Red Sonja

Red Sonja was captured by her arch enemy, Kulan Gath while she was traveling alone.  She knew she must die and dreaded the horrors she would face first.

It began with her being tortured with hot coals.  The tormentor started off by plunging the hot coal into Sonja's body so she would know what awaited her before questioning.  She tried not not to shriek in agony and horror.  But shriek she did.  She could smell her burning flesh.

Tormentor:  My master says to have fun with you.

He pokes her flesh five more times.  She shrieks five more times.  Then sobbing she said:

Sonja:  Please, just question me!  I'll tell you what I know!

Tormentor:  Poor Sonja!  Don't be in such a hurry!  A good interrogation session takes time!  Just let the pain sink in for a moment!

The torment was severe.  She continued to sob and cry out from time to time.

Tormentor:  Now, my dear Sonja!  Are you an enemy of my master?

Sonja:  Yes!

Sonja gets another taste of the hot coal.  She screamed again.

Sonja:  I, I, I told you the truth!

Tormentor:  Its not going to be so easy for you!  Are you an enemy of my master?

Sonja:  Please, please, please, I am Kulan Gath's enemy!

Her interrogation went on like this for some time.  Kulan Gath was watching his enemy suffer.  He said the interrogation was over and she was guilty of waging war on him.  He sentenced her to death.  Salve was put on her burns and she was placed in a cell with straw on the floor.  She was allowed to rest for a week.

The time had come.  She was led out of her cell and taken outside.  She climbed the scaffolding and walked to the stake.  She positioned herself to be bound to the stake.  She was bound very securely.  She noted the huge crowd gathered to witness her execution.  Twigs were piled up around her.

Kulan Gath:  My dear Queen Sonja you may now make a statement before I light the fire.

Sonja:  My Lord Kulan Gath.  I accept my fate and will now be burned at the stake.

Kulan Gath:  Well spoken my Queen.  I now light the fire!

Kulan Gath lit the fire and the twigs burst into flames.  Sonja wailed, cried and sighed for about 45 minutes until she finally died.  The fire was allowed to finish consuming her body.  He gloated.

Sonja found herself back in Kulan Gath's fortress.  She realised she was a ghost.  She was grateful to no longer be in pain.  She tried to leave the fortress but was trapped inside.  A spirit messenger told her that she was bound there by her hate for Kulan Gath.  To move on she would have to let go of the hate.

She said that she had an urgent message to give.  The messenger allowed her one appearance.  She appears to Vampirella, her lover.

Vampirella:  My beloved Sonja, what has happened to you?

Sonja:  Dearest Vampy, I have been tortured and burned at the stake by Kulan Gath! (both women begin to weep).  You are my successor.  I have named you to be the guardian of my only relative a two-rear old nephew, an orphan.  You are the Queen Regent for my kingdom.

Vampirella:  Oh, honey I'm so sorry!

Sonja:  I need you to immediately go to my fortress and tell them what has happened.  You must lead my army out to meet Kulan Gath's army and battle them!

Vampirella:  I will do so my beloved!

Sonja:  Thank you!  I must go now!

Sonja vanishes from Vampirella's presence.  She telles the messenger that Queen Vampirella will love her nephew and her people.  Sonja keeps Kulan Gath from leaving his fortress as long as she could.  She was completely exhausted and released him and sought sanctuary in the darkest place in the castle to rest.

After a few days rest, Sonja returned to the great hall and waited another day.  Then the few survivors of Kulan Gath's army return and report.  They reported that they were met by Queen Vampirella and her army.  She wore armor and carried a sword.  She fought with Kulan Gath and slew him.

Sonja laughed with satisfaction, knowing that Kulan Gath was humiliated to be slain by Vampirella.  She retreated to the darkest and unvisited part of the castle.  It was time for her to begin the struggle to forgive Kulan Gath with all her heart.  She lay on the floor, folded her hands on her chest and sighed.  It would be hard.
